At first they thought it was schizophrenia

Schizophrenia, like autism, works on a spectrum. So only certain cases of autism could be falsely diagnosed as such because only certain people on the autistic spectrum would show signs that could remind people of schizophrenia.

Autism is genetic. It can't be caught just because you didn't take something.

Its human nature not to trust vaccines, just as nature intended to weed out the weak.

The medical requisites for a diagnosis of autism has changed over the last few years, but I don't think this fully explains the increase.

Personally I think the dangerous junk that is combined into otherwise beneficial vaccines, mishandling of product and the one-size-fits-all mentality behind vaccine distribution is a leading cause for increased autism (as well as depression and the general lower life expectancy of my children's generation). Vaccines can be an invaluable tool in maintaining a healthy society, but misuse and abuse of them counteracts their benefits.

That could be the case, but probably in lower rates.

I know many people use this as an anti-vaxx arguement, but I think it goes beyond. I believe there is more to it than just vaccines, it's also all the chemicals in products, hormones, pollution, and genetics in general since genes are passed on. Not to mention over 2000 nukes have been detonated and radiation spread around the earth. I also think that conditions other than autism but also are occurring more frequently these days fall into the same category, like gluten intolerance, peanut allergies, lactose intolerance, etc. Go back 50 years, many of these things never cropped up more than a few times although they were known about and diagnosable. And before I get labeled, I believe vaccines do more good than bad, and many of the products out there are good products that have bettered mankind. I just realize that many things have happened that could be contributing to more terminal illnesses and conditions, and admit I am not an authority on any of this.

Autism can be linked with proteins that could be affected by the stuff we put in our bodies and environment.
