Of all the adverse reactions from vaccinations now reported on the American Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, which was set up in the US to identify side-effects of vaccines, the overwhelming majority are due to the DPT vaccine. [D is for diptheria]
Health-policy makers have reacted to news that vaccination hasn’t wiped out the disease by promoting earlier and earlier immunisation of children in order to protect them. However, there is no research to show that early immunisation confers any benefit (Lancet, 1993; 342: 203-5), especially in relation to diphtheria. In fact, one study revealed that a DTP jab at birth actually lower the body’s antibody response to diphtheria (J Ped, 1995; 126: 198-205). Neither does giving a pregnant women a DTP booster confer any benefit on her child.
