I don't want another politics stream, but I think some topics should be discussed in a civil manner. How can we go about this?

One MOD suggested one theme a week. Perhaps we could designate one day of the week to discuss politics with the rules, no derogatory language as sometimes seen in the politics stream. You should give your stance with substantiated evidence to back your claim when you comment. A higher standard for better communication.

Sounds reasonable. A defined day/topic to be sure. What is "political" to some may just be raising social awareness to another...passing on newly discovered facts.
My sincere apologies to the moderators/streams for posting on such a topic.

No need to apologize. I agree that political is just a label. To me most issues that are talked about are actually not political but social and moral issues and that's why people are so passionate about them. I would like to be able to talk about guns, and health, economics, poverty, immigration, etc. without the toxicity that often accompanies political forums. But perhaps it will mean setting up a separate stream. The Think Tank 2? Lol

Lol Maybe. : ) . politics IS volatile even if it's also a social/human justice topic too. Maybe best to keep that fire cracker in another stream. I honestly forgot there was another place to post since I'd been ineligible 4 awhile.
Politely Calling someone out on an inappropriate meme can be an effective way to make them rethink it. No need to change up things when there are other streams to have those convos.

Maybe post one meme for politics and then people can post political themes and discussion in the one meme?

If you allow any politics you open Pandora's box. I follow and enjoy this stream, but probably will stop following if there's politics. I come to imgflip in part to escape politics, and I think putting politics in its own stream was the best improvement the site ever made.

I tend to agree. Thanks for your input. I'm going to leave the Tank politics free. Perhaps start another similar stream for politics debate. :)

On one hand I'd say that political discussions here would tend to be more civil and productive, but at the same time part of the allure of this stream is the lack of politics and the drama that ensues. If I had to pick one or the other, I'd say no since the stream has been so successful as is, but wouldn't be opposed to limited exposure to some topics. Honestly if there was a way to keep moderation strong and steadfast in the politics stream I'd probably spend more time there, but there are so many unchecked and disrespectful discussions there that I usually refuse. Keep in mind, many folks are here in this stream to have safe haven from those things while still enjoying intellectual opinion sharing. Can you find a compromise and still maintain the safe atmosphere?

I'm thinking the consensus here seems to be keep politics out. But perhaps I could find or start another Think Tank type stream that would allow for political discussion. I like the Tank the way it is. It's just a couple people have wanted to discuss hot topics like that and I wasn't sure whether to allow it or not. I appreciate the honest input from everyone. :)

There was already the vaccine debate, so I think the answer is and should be yes.

Vaccines aren't really political in my opinion. At least I haven't seen it as an issue on most candidates platforms.
