Well yeah, you didn't think environmentalism was about the environment, did you?
It's all about the self-congratulations for an unjustified sense of superiority.
I previously had a career in commercial energy efficiency advisory (teaching companies and staff on how to reduce energy usage and environmental impact, primarily) and very little these people do has any actual value in the grand scheme.
1. Repair, reuse, repurpose and maintain everything.
2. Grow, buy local, eat everything on your plate.
3. Insulate, turn off the lights, buy only when necessary.
Or you could do it the environmentalist way:
1. Build 40 million cars that need mining and manufacturing over 6 nations.
2. Ship all your plastic to South East Asia
3. Buy food from national companies using energy intensive 'organic farming' and replace your iPhone every year ..
