thinking meme | LET'S SEE HERE.... | image tagged in thinking meme | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
While some things I learned were never used in life they served as enrichment during that stage of life. Literature for example, science, history, art, music. Some of which did also beef up the thought process or critical thinking ability, or served to increase vocabulary and basic understanding of certain concepts. So while 99% of it I have not actually used most of it did serve a greater purpose.

However I have used precious little math. I will say though that the math I did learn, while I do not use most of it today gave me a better understanding of numbers and concepts. So I don't know how entirely useless any of it really is. We may not actively use it but surely most of it helped in some other way?

Enrichment is one thing. I love enriching myself with education, whether I get to use it or not. But then again, I'm well into adulthood. Making young children learn useless facts seems a bit trite.

I believe useless facts and enrichment are two different things, also not all things learned are facts but rather skills. Such as teaching them HOW to think as opposed to WHAT to think. Have you ever met a person who seemed totally incapable of following a logical thought process? That is why I say somethings may seem useless but when you look at it there are other things to be learned. Some things we learn so we don't repeat history.

I work at a University, it's full of them!

Tell me about it. And it just becomes more and more alarming... somehow.

Hmm...
(sqrt16)^3 km/h
= 4^3 km/hr
= 4*4*4 km/hr
= 16*4 km/hr
= 40+24 km/hr
= 64 km/hr
~ 40 mph.

I actually enjoyed learning math (save the base numbers system), even if I don't get to use it that often.

It was actually a physics class. While the class itself was not a debate class, the teacher made us work problems, present our solutions, and then the rest of the class had the opportunity to tear our theory apart which meant that we basically had to defend our answer and debate with the rest of the class and the teacher. While I'm a smart guy and actually got an engineering degree (lots of physics), this class did nothing for me because I am not a good debater and can't stand arguing. I actually have some contempt for that teacher because of that, even talked to him once about it and he was so arrogant about it...pretty much told me that if I was smarter I wouldn't have that problem. I'd love to talk to him today and tell him I've gone into engineering anyway, no thanks to his useless class.

With all the years I spent learning French I haven't a word of it. Also technical graphics it should have been an interesting and useful subject but our teacher was useless, he came in hungover every Monday and had an extremely bad temper.

The base numbers system, 7th Grade. Base 10 was easy, base 2 was okay, but we went up to BASE SIXTEEN. Who uses that?! I still don't know what base systems are for!

Yes, there is a huge difference between memorizing dates and battle sites and learning the reasons why a people or person achieved or initiated what they did. Something teachers invariably failed to understand when I was in school.

So...... this is technically college, but it's an interesting story, nonetheless. My takeaway from it was, sometimes it just doesn't matter what's on the syllabus anyway, because lectures are not always memorable.

I don't remember the name of this class, but I think it had something to do with business organization.

I don't remember the teacher's name.

I don't even remember what we were talking about that day.

But I do remember someone brought up (and not even sure why), that male sperm whales have 4-foot genitalia.

Even though that fact is perfectly useless to me, as I'm not a marine biologist, nor did I take marine biology, but that fact will stick with me forever.

Happy Blessed School Year, students.

I have had bad teachers, I have had subjects that I am not good at (autocad, I don't have the math skills) and even now I am having to return to knowledge from high school. Algebra is a big part of the SPC charts we formulating using Minitab right now so we can get our IATF certifaction.

Best class was an English class where we studied semantics. Should be required learning.
