How can they find that you'll do something before you're asked?

Brain patterns.

Changes in brain activity, I suppose. Not a neurologist, so I can't be certain.

have you heard of criminology profilers? They use phycology, how the person acts and how they've seen other people act to find people

It depends on the definition you're using, but I'm referring to the most common idea of it in this meme.

In 2008, Chung Sion Soon used an FMIR machine to measure the activity of the brain by asking people to press either a right or left button with one of their two index fingers. He found that the decision to press one of the two buttons can be found in the prefrontal and parietal cortex up to 10 seconds before the idea even entered the subjects awareness. As a result, if we can predict what you can do before you're even aware of it ,whilst your brain already determined your choices, before you even knew about it, then you can't have the free will known as ''Libertarian Free Will'' which is the idea that we have Conscious control over our own actions .

Reread my comment. I said up to ten seconds. Also you haven't specified the version of free will you're referring to.

However obstacles will be put in your way

You're still not making the choices to respond to those obstacles.

Lets say you wanna drive your car off a cliff. While God won't stop you he will make your tires go flat, you'll run out of blinker fluid and a flock of seagulls will block you

So it's an attempt to deter you from making the choice.

Yeah

So then why would god even want to give you the choice if he's going to do nearly everything to stop you?

Hmm good question

The error is assuming God will stop you.

Bad definition. God is whatever is at the top of a person’s life. May be self, money, etc. but it is worshipped, praised, sought after.

The error is assuming that god exist without any evidence.

The error exists assuming God does not exist, without any evidence.

I'm not able to respond to your last reply, so I'll just write here. Anyways, I'm not making a claim on the existence of a god or gods. I'm just saying that because it's the religious making the claim that a god is real it would also be their job to prove the actuality of the deity.
2 ups, 5y
The non religious have poor explanations for how or why things exist, and no explanation for who is at the top of the food chain. That being is essentially god.

''The non religious have poor explanations for how or why things exist, and no explanation for who is at the top of the food chain. That being is essentially god.'' Such as?

God is whatever is on top. If that is man, then an “atheist” is his own god, the supreme identity. There are no atheists - everyone has a god. But not all are the true God or all powerful.

Yes, but not entirely. Our decisions can be influenced by many different factors.
[deleted]
3 ups, 5y
Outside factors like other's actions are still not consciously performed by the people making them.

Yes, there is free will. And regarding the experiment you've mentioned, there are many things which we don't know about our bodies and ourselves (among many other things). I'm not a neurologist, but I can assume, from the info given, that our bodies are 'programmed', so to speak, to make certain choices in advance for survival purposes. Basically, to think a few steps ahead. Still, even though it's done subconsciously, it is still us who make those choices. Saying otherwise assumes, according to my explanation, that either we are seperate/disconnected from our bodies, or that somerhing else altogether decides the actions our bodies make. And if you go with the latter, ask youself: Would the driving force of your actions ever lead you to thinking about free will at all?

Your theory still leaves many gaps that would need to be explained. Free will in it's most common terms requires full realization of your actions.

For the sake of convenience, let us define free will and determinism. If it is you who determines your choices, that's free will. If it's something else, that's determinism.

Yes, I know there are a few gaps in my theory. I kind of write the whole comment in a hurry, so I'll explain a few obvious questions which arise from reading my comment.
1. How does the body know of a choice ten seconds before the choice enters our awareness?
Again, there are many things which we don't know about our body. One explanation could be that there is a time gap between us and our own senses, so by the time we become aware of a choice, our brain has already made it. Another explanation could be that our brain keeps track of everything happening, and deduces what will happen next based on the available info, having the brain realize there is a choice to be made before the mind realizes that.
2. How can it be a free will choice if it's done subconsciously?
Simple. Imagine doing anything subconsciously. Breathing, for example. You do not have to focus on your breathing to do it. You can do it subconsciously. But, even if you do it subconsciously, it is still you who does it. Same with making choices. You make your choices, whether you're aware it or not. You may say "But it's my body what chooses it, not me. How can it be a free will choice?". Again, this implies disconnection from your body. It implies that your body is merely a vehicle, and that your mind or spirit is a driver. And while that may hold true for a large number of people, the proper way of being is with the body, mind and spirit all aligned and balanced.

Those are all I can think of. If you have any questions about my theory, feel free to ask.

Not really.

It seems unfalsifiable.
If I say yes or no then either way it could have unknowingly been predetermined by unknown factors, atleast theoretically.

Probably best to assume yes and that I'm consciously responsible for my screw ups, rather than hidden brain actions or cosmic rulers
[deleted]

I think Soon's experiment debunks a possibility of it being unfalsifiable.

To be honest,I dont really feel like we doubt theres a saying
'I think, therefore I am'
and its basically saying you have the option to think about what you want to do, then you have free will, right?
