I agree that "something" must be done. But that something should be something actually helpful and not just and old something to placate the populous as the standard knee jerk reaction usually gives us.

On a side note, until the media started screaming about mass shootings, the number where in a long decline. Even now gun homicides are declining.

That would be indeed wrong. If you have a history of threats and violence that the police responded to many times and people live in fear that you'll shoot them one day, there should be a process to see if you are indeed a threat, with the state need to prove the problem and allowing the right to defend yourself from the accusation.

Just screaming ban is a simple minded solution and unconstitutional as well. Additionally many of the solution presented after a mass shooting would have done absolutely nothing to stop it, if implemented and followed before the attack.

We're never going to ban guns from Americans. But, the culture has changed. 50yrs ago if a guy wanted to buy a new rifle, it was likely a bolt action with a maximum 5rd capacity. That's what people bought. We've created this fascination today that is unhealthy. I don't care if you have 500 rifles with 50rd mags and 1000's of rounds of ammo, it doesn't make you any more of a man. It's a really weird culture. Maybe people today have just too much time on their hands. Maybe we just need to ban large capacity mags. If the limit was ten rounds, that would go a long way toward stopping this madness.

Actually Chicago and Washington DC managed to ban guns before the SCOTUS struck the laws down.

And high compact mags being banned, it was tried and didn't stop mass shootings.

I know all about the large cap mags ban. By the time the law went into effect the manufacturers had stamped out millions of them. It only band new ones from being made. All old stock could be sold. More mags were sold than at any time in history. It was a selling frenzy. I bought at least 15 myself.

This is really part of the problem. The thought that something might not be available any longer, makes people want it even more. Clinton and Obama were the best gun dealers in American history.
