I read that somewhere once. I had a big book of common myths and misconceptions. That was in it. Along with the Paul Revere thing.

Some artist takes a liberty and it goes from there.

I think the Paul Revere thing just sounded better than Dawes and Prescott...plus saying Paul Revere surrendered within a couple hours doesn't really get that patriotic blood going

There were more riders too, one was actually a young girl--she did most of the riding (go figure she's forgotten).

They each rode in different directions, got caught, the others managed to get away and Paul Revere gave up

Some of the details are lost in my memory, but we did about a months worth of this whole piece of history. I think the school textbooks still list the incorrect version.
