It’s a sign of the times. George Carlin and others back around Nixon, then The energy crisis hit. They were doing more political humor as the country was suffering and humor was a way of reacting to it.
But on a positive note, Steve Martian appeared at the end of those times and his wacky non political act was the breath of fresh air we needed. Here’s hoping history repeats itself in that aspect.
