The U.S. also doesn't have:

- mandated Paid leave for mothers of new born babies

- mandatory Payed Vacation

- Guaranteed paid sick days

- A multi-Party Democracy

Your point is...?

That's not up to the government to force businesses to provide. However, there are many private companies that do have a lot of that stuff.

But again, it isn't up to the government to do this. However, if you work a government job, they do have a lot of this available.

"That's not up to the government to force businesses to provide."

Why not?

"However, there are many private companies that do have a lot of that stuff."

If a lot of Companies have it, why not make it official?

I wouldn't expect you to understand much of the way things work Jeremy I forgot you're in Germany.

A private business has the right to dictate what type of benefits it provides. If someone doesn't like the benefits, they can look for another job that does provide them. Here in Texas it isn't mandatory for a business to provide a break. However, I have yet to see a business not provide a break. The free market works a lot more than you might give it credit for.

Yeah. And I am not saying the free market is bad, its great. But why not make sure everyone has the right to a minimum amount of paid leave? Or some such. Surely if a large majority of employers already offer such benigits why not make a minimum officiaö?

Because it is not the government's job to dictate to private business what benefits they provide. If you don't like the benefits a company offers, you are free to find another job. If companies want talented people they will offer competitive benefits.

The less the government is involved, the better.

Because that is not how a free market system works, besides, governments screw everything up.

Te govt. wouldn't be controlling the market. Only making it better for the worker by establishing a minimum of Quality of life.

"governments screw everything up."

Too much government, yes. But telling people they have a guarantee to a minimum amount of paid vacation days is hardly bad.

What right does the government have to tell any private business how to run their company. Besides, many small businesses can not afford to give all these benefits.

More government regulation, in general, is bad for business. Look at the EU.

The U.S. has a GDP growth rate of over 3.5%. The EU with all their regulations has a GDP growth rate of 1.5%. Germany is .5%

Unemployment in the U.S. is 3.2% in the EU it is 6.4%.

Labor Force Participation Rate in the U.S. is 62.9% in the EU it is 58.2%.

I know this is a point in time comparison, but historically, the U.S. has outperformed the EU in business growth and I think it may have to do somewhat with less regulation. Just my opinion.

Well government wouldnt be doing that now would it? All it would be doing is enforcing a minimum amount of paid leave and sum such. Barely running Businesss at all.

And the comparison between the eu and the us is kinda fair, altho to sooth my European pride I'd like to point out if we count the GDPs of all the EU Member states we'd be ahead of the US by a Trillion.

And perhaps your right but these numbers I am seeing arent that bad. And if you've got to lose a bit in Efficiency to raise the standard of living... well where is the harm in that?
