I think it's important to recognize just how far the communicative power of our species has unleashed in the past 20 years, and that does include the convenience of autocorrect and spellcheck. It makes everything accessible to people who want a voice but otherwise might not be able to have one.
That said, it does seem to foster a tenancy to carry over writing practices of casual or rushed communication to things that should be handled with more skill. And I see that with adults as well as children. So now everyone has a voice but people aren't practicing the skills that would maximise its impact.
