California previously let out "non violent offenders" early to counter over crowded prisons. Turns out, a healthy number of these inmates committed violent crimes but through a plea deal got lesser charges.

Hmm. In that case I’d say it needs to be made known to the judge by the prosecutor that the criminals initially committed violent acts even if they take a plea bargain. That way they are removed from consideration of rehabilitation because they committed the deed regardless of lesser charge.

If not, the release of those people is also on the prosecutor who is striking the deals.

That would make too much sense for legislators. In contemporary government, most any policy that makes sense never reaches a vote

That’s too bad. It would really help with the overcrowding issue. Pity these legislators talk about issues like this but don’t want to fix them.

They fix issues only when it brings them additional money, power or both. Rarely is legislation passed for alturtistic reasons.

A shame. It literally handicaps this country in terms of actual progression.
