i understand why some may think that way,and it can be another form of punishment,but it is also a really effective way to disenfranchise people.
it is a state by state issue.
took me 10 years to get my rights back,and i had to fight for it,even though it was in that states constitution that my rights be re-instated automatically.
as for "buying votes"..meh..not exactly a new or novel tactic,but it does presume the direction that convict would take.
if you recall it was bill Clinton who enacted the "three strikes" and thus began America's largest penal colony on the planet.neither party could be considered "convict friendly".both parties use the "tough on crime" bullwhip every election cycle.
both Vermont and maine allow convicts to vote,but those are the only states.i am partial to either actually.i understand both lines of thinking and they both have validity.so let the states make their own rules.
