You don't have to believe in it - you can do what you want - but that's what he said to believe in.

“If you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one” (Luke 22:36). Christ expected things to become very unsafe for his disciples after his death, and told them to prepare to defend themselves from unjust aggression.

"The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.” “That’s enough!” he replied."

Two swords to share among all his followers? Such a socialist, that Jesus.

Of course, what he was actually yammering about was how the prophesies of false accusations against him were about to be fulfilled. The two swords weren't enough to defend them with - obviously - BUT they were enough to falsely implicate him in the allegations that were to come. Jesus did not instruct anyone to fight back.

Again, if you don't want to listen to that guy, that's your business, but his instructions were very clear on this occasion.

And, indeed, what happens in Matthew 26:52?

Like I say, you can do what you want. I'm just quoting where it says that "an eye for an eye" is exactly not what you're supposed to do.

Amen! I love how they try to make Jesus out to be a non-violent hippy. He was far from it, so is our God! Even God sent Angels to fight man's wars in the beginning. We still have warrior angels who are preparing for the Final battle.

Jesus wasn't a peace loving hippy and a lot of people get that wrong. Yes, he DID say to turn the other cheek, but you lack the context of why he said that. The first hit is out of anger, God can forgive anger. The second hit is of sin and that sin will be judged.

I'm just going to leave the context right here so that people can judge, so to speak, for themselves.

"You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you."
