A pregnancy brought to full term brings forth a human being, which makes it a human before then, just not fully developed. Terminating human pregnancy is killing a human.
Catholics are making some strides I believe in the right direction in their idea of correct discipline. Not for nothing, but Catholic Church bishops are hardly the most ideal source on corporal punishment for children.
Plus abortions, infanticide, matricide, pope-icide, etc are part of Church and Papal history. In the Middle Ages it seemed an outright competition to see which can be more vile than the others.
