Not for nothing, but Catholic Church bishops are hardly the most ideal source on corporal punishment for children.

Plus abortions, infanticide, matricide, pope-icide, etc are part of Church and Papal history. In the Middle Ages it seemed an outright competition to see which can be more vile than the others.
