Why were desertion rates the highest from the Confederate army than at any other point in US military history?

Does the desertion rate rebut the OP's claim that the cause of Federal States was just and heroic?

No it does not.

Justice and heroism being inherently subjective things, hard evidence to substantiate such a claim must by nature deal primarily with the actions and reactions of people who were involved at the time. Don't you think?

100% agree. Those are inherently hard definitions to nail down, as such it makes the OPs claim nearly impossible to address. As such moving to other topics, even though tangentially related, creates a structurally weak argument.

The best course of action with a post such as this, would be, if your interested in doing so, to draw the OP out and force him to ascribe a definition to 'heroic" and "just". From there, you will have a better view point to determine if his argument is sound.

I don't think that IS the best course of action, but I've no objection to you implementing that strategy yourself.
