Saddam Hussein has spent the better part of this decade and much of his nation's wealth not on providing for the Iraqi people but on developing nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them."
-- President Bill Clinton (State of the Union Address), Jan. 27, 1998

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"No one has done what Saddam Hussein has done, or is thinking of doing. He is producing weapons of mass destruction, and he is qualitatively and quantitatively different from other dictators.""Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face."
--Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
--Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

The rhetoric was there 4 a while

"I come to this debate, Mr. Speaker, as one at the end of 10 years in office on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where stopping the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction was one of my top priorities. I applaud the President on focusing on this issue and on taking the lead to disarm Saddam Hussein. ... Others have talked about this threat that is posed by Saddam Hussein. Yes, he has chemical weapons, he has biological weapons, he is trying to get nuclear weapons."
-- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D. CA) Oct. 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
-- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
-- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."
-- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

"People can quarrel with whether we should have more troops in Afghanistan or internationalize Iraq or whatever, but it is incontestable that on the day I left office, there were unaccounted for stocks of biological and chemical weapons."
-- Ex President Bill Clinton, Jul. 22, 2003 (Interview with CNN Larry King)

There was tons of chemical weapons found. NYT even blames Bush for Troops getting sick because they didnt have proper equipment to handle them.. Oct 2012 if memory serves?

There where chemical weapons found, which we knew he had since Reagan authorized giving them to him and built factories over there to make them. This was to use against Iran in their 8 year war, who lovely St Reagan was also arming to fight against Iraq.

Saddam also used those weapons against his own Kurdish and Swamp Arab populations in retaliation for them rebelling after Bush Sr gave them reason to believe we'd help. Since we made no concrete promises, we let them die, just proxies to be left on their own.

The weapons Bush Jr found were old and degraded, decommissioned, inoperative.

Clinton's bs became known as "Wag the dog"
That, and all the rest you posted, just like I said the other day, show the Democrates are nothing more that the seemingly passive lackeys of the Republican party. Dems and Repubs are two beanches of one machine.

Reading compiled here what WE did over three decades that caused so many innocent deaths is disgusting and makes me ashamed.

oh it was a giant cluster f**k..
The chem weapons were old but some were from 1991 and could easily been scavenged to make viable wmds.(family member is a 35 yr atf agent)
would saddam used them? probably not. Bark bigger than bite etc,

He was an evil man tho, but a seal sniper could have done the same thing without a war and many dead.

There is a good docu from the History ch called "Saddam and the third Reich"

What we did over there was "stir the pot" not for the better at times.

I laugh every time I hear people say they hope for "Peace in the middle east"
It hasn't happened in 2000 yrs and doubt there ever will.

My Mother is good pals with he Kesler Family of Byrn Mayr Pa.The Keslers are very good friends with Al Gore. Mrs Kesler asked Al Gore why he never ran for potus again and he said in reference to what I would assume Iraq and/or the mid east "You are dammed if you do and dammed if you dont"

I know many ppl who have been there, my neighbor just got back from Syria and they all say its a 2000 yr old hornets nest, why would we want to hit it with a stick?

Well his death was worse than bark or bite, because what was Saddam waiting for to use them? These were rusting shells awaiting final disposal in accordance to agreements after the end of the first Gulf War, forgotten, the winds covering them up with sand.
The analysis of the find indicates that they were farther along with compliance of disposal than we had thought, since no other caches had been found since and we 'knew' there should have been more because of what was accounted for when they were instructed to get rid of them and how.

Somehow I never managed to watch that docu, though I intended to.

Iraq was stage one. I've been saying it since then and they just announced it like last week - Iran was next. Two countries rendered 'rogue' by US policy just waiting to be transformed - and exploited.

Peace anywhere is a matter of perspective. Yay, Iran and Turkey stared each other down for a few centuries while the Silk Road flourished and Europe hid in the shadows of the Middle Ages, stagnating in their own fetid puss, fighting even their own brothers over borders and other nonsense. 1871 was a sucky year for the warring factions in the German States and the Italian penninsula. Killing their own blood over invisible dotted lines for centuries.

It took WWI & WWII to finally domesticate all of Europe (well almost, anyways).
It also took WWII & WWII to BEGIN the troubles in the Middle East. From stirring up nationalism to use them as proxies to dismember the Ottoman Empire from within to proxies against the spread of Nasserism and Socialism in the 1970s, there IS a reason that the incidents of terrorism and the rest prior to our meddling numbered ZERO. All of it, hostilities, even Sharia law, barely a mumbel. That old image of dusty bazzaars and Persian carpets and genies and harems and hashish and spice - as seen in Hollywood films of yore. That was the Western stereotype of the sleepy Middle East back then and it was that because that's how things used to be before we had to go screw things up.

Throw in the creation of Israel (which should have been carved out of Germany, the rest divided amongst the surrounding countries Hitler invaded), and every problem in the Middle East can be traced in glowing neon to us. Every. single. problem.
We did this, we have no one to blame but ourselves. The sooner we can learn this, the sooner we can stop.

on the road today, not much time 4 flip. The containers that house the chem payload are made from Iconel or hastaloy depending on the yr.. very high grade Stainless steel and they do not rust. a couple of good men could have had thousands tip top in a week.

if a car has a rusty bumper but the internals are great, is it not a car anymore?
0 ups, 6y
Even if not rusting as described, they had still been rendered inoperative, and again, what was Saddam waiting for to use them? Invasion, fleeing, hiding, capture, trial, sentence, execution, death... He wasn't particularly religious, not like he was banking on the afterlife to get on it.

Not exactly. We did not steal that stuff, just opened the market back up for them (China got meore than we did.

People forget that the military industrial complex itself is a money making machine, and the private subcontracters they hire are interested in profit, and thus lobby hard for it. That war put billions in Haliburton's (and others) pocket - a company Cheney started.

They made money building and rebuilding oil platforms, mines, infrastructure, etc. That that money was US taxpayer money does not alter the fact that it enriched American companies involved.
