It appears you dismiss the results hard work, which perhaps you do so because you have never worked hard.

Probably. Started college at sixteen, got my Master's at 21, written a book, directed plays, published poems on three continents, teach full time and volunteer for after-school clubs serving over 200 students. #NeverWorkedHard

Good for you, I was mistaken. You obviously are a hard worker, and successful, which debunks the premise of your meme. It's great when things work out, isn't it?

1.you made an assumption based on almost no information.
2.which you then made snide jabs at the OP
3.using stereotypical tropes.
4.this is human,no judgey here,we all do it.
5.OP lays out how he has, indeed, worked hard.
6.you admit to being mistaken
7.but add a caveat where you actually weren't wrong.the OP was.
^^^that right there! ^^^^ THAT^^^^ is where the flaw resides.

you are a smart puppy.no argument from me,but you do tend to become far too invested in being RIGHT.

sometimes the truth is more nuanced, and cannot be easily reduced to binary equations?

ever consider that "successful" can be more of a subjective identifier?
consider that some people work themselves to death, and never achieve what society considers "successful"?
that the OP has indeed worked hard, but may work in an economically repressed region and can barely afford groceries?

I mean, just take the time to reflect that the person who made this meme is addressing how "working hard" may be a myth fed to the working class, and does not actually bear the fruits promised by that myth.

I am in no way dismissing the benefits of hard work,or that you can achieve much by actually, you know..working.i am simply pointing to the fact that you tend to invest too much in being right, and that the OP does have a foundation to work from.it is,after all,his experiences he is expressing.

just food for thought, and just sharing my perspective.
which I could be absolutely wrong.take it in the humanity it was written.

Enoch, the entire was to draw him out. People, by our nature, are ego driven. Tell somebody they are not successful and their ego will take over to defend their successes.

I stated he was not successful, with no information to support the claim, as you showed. But the purpose was not be right in that claim.

The purpose was to show, by the OP's own admission, that his original premise was flawed. In the end, he ended up extolling the virtues and successes of hard work far better than I ever could have.

I mean, lots of people are making interesting points on my behalf - but despite my truncated resume I posted, the people laughing in the meme are people whose social circles I'm unlikely to ever reach. The meme really doesn't work with just the text alone; the image + the text was what I was going for.

I do appreciate that you consider me successful! I have yet to feel that, though maybe that's impostor syndrome? Maybe it's depression?

I was just commenting on the hard work I've done, not that I was successful. I think this has been a valuable conversation, though. Kind of shocking for my second meme posted ever.

yet they have become one of the most prominent ways to communicate.

which is why I came here.i wanted to understand why people relied on memes as a solid form of expression and communication.

welcome to the politics stream.
