You know. I can sympathize with some of the Right's arguments against gun Laws. i don't necessarily agree with them, but I can sympathize. What I need to ask them is, how exactly do you plan to defend your home and family with a AWP Sniper Rifle. What? You gonna sit on your perch and be like "man if that guy gets a Kilometer closer I'll have to defend myself!"

I had exactly this argument on another meme. When someone breaks into your house, you want a shotgun: it's dark, you just woke up, your aim is poor, you want spread, and you want to control damage so that nobody dies you don't want to die. And yet they want an AR-15. Several comments down the thread later and I still don't get it.

An AR-15 would have less recoil and a larger capacity. It's an easy reload as well, with an extra plus of it looking really cool.

If we take them off the shelves, criminals will still get them. Why is heroin and meth still on the street if they're not on any civilian market? The black market, that's for sure. If the civilians don't get the same thing they'll have a lesser chance of defending themselves. Also note that everyone had the same weapons as the government before, the government has tanks now though... Plus, do you seriously think that it can take out concrete bunkers? The AR-15 shoots a week bullet that can barely penetrate.

For God's sakes: the fact that you're using meth and heroin as an example means you already know the answer to that because we have laws on those drugs that we didn't just give up on forty years ago; even on a black market, making them illegal and cutting off the supply drives the market price up, making it more difficult to buy and less accessible to all but the most successful of criminals. Doesn't eliminate the volume of sales, but it lowers it significantly, and that is the point. Think about all your friends who quit smoking when cigarettes just become too expensive to keep buying. And to someone who just wants to put a lid on the gun epidemic, reduction and not elimination is a desired goal. You've been told that our only goal is to outright ban all guns but that was a lie.

The only people that have meth and heroin are criminals, so if everyone who owns guns is a criminal, what are law abiding citizens gonna defend themselves with? We need to treat citizens with the same protection we give to politicians and celebrities and that is by giving them a gun and putting armed guards in schools. You might say that armed guards in school will make the students frightened, but wanna what's even scarier? Someone shooting up the school and nobody is stopping them.

As long as it becomes more difficult for an irresponsible person to get one, sure, I'll sign off on that - and we need to have a discussion about what possible reason a civilian would have on assaulting a concrete bunker. But are we done avoiding the issue by nit-picking on the nomenclature?

Assaulting a concrete bunker is the M16's job, which is the select fire version of the AR-15. The AR-15 is for civilians to protect themselves with, OK?

It's all a trick by the left. They made a legal definition of "assault weapon" as a firearm that has: 1) a pistol-like grip. 2) a stock that can extend. 3) a grip for the other hand.

That's it. Nothing about magazine size, if it has automatic fire, laser sights, grenade launchers.... The definition is so pathetically broad that a pea shooter with these three characteristics that only ever could shoot one round before being reloaded counts as an "assault weapon".

And then they wonder why we still haven't banned all assault weapons!
