I live on the southern border and have more knowledge of the inner workings of illegal immigrant detention and processing than anyone on this site because I'm close friends with people that work in the companies that get contracts from the government to deal with the illegals. I've even shaken hands with the head of operations in south Texas. I ask them how things are going every other week. I knew days in advance of the news stories that Mexico was going to take over adult detention of people illegally crossing the border. I have real connections that journalists only dream of having.
Here's the problem with what you prefer:
1. Yeh okay so what? Your feelings don't matter and have caused more harm than anything, which I'll go over now...
2. Family detention centers are currently located away from areas where the lawyers who take the cases live. This means entire families are left waiting for representation for a very long time, assuming they ever get it. Most get fed up with waiting and end up requesting to be returned to their country of origin. People that had legitimate asylum claims end up screwed over all because they got shipped to family detention centers because ignorant people like you cried until Trump changed the law. Good job.
3. Children are not "lost" in the system. There are periods of time when almost nothing is known about them but when it's their turn to be processed they literally have teams of people working to find out everything they can about these children. Families get reunited, put back in contact, or aware of their family members situation once their processing begins. If it wasn't for the insane amount of people backlogging the system there wouldn't be any reportable problems.
Our country has the kindest illegal immigration laws of any country in the world. Every single illegal immigrant gets the efforts of a team of people to do their background research, find their families and contacts, get them lawyers, feed them, clothe them, give them shelter, give them health care, and give them a chance to stand before a judge and plead their case.
Get your feelings out of here and quit writing to your congressman about things you have no understanding of.
