fun fact kids, germany is already decades ahead of the US in renewable energy technology, and has partnered with china and other Asian countries to implement the largest renewable energy grid ever known to man.while leaving the US out(which was an absolute failure of our state dept).

oh,and let's not ignore the largest infrastructure project ever:

Jimmy Carter | YOU'RE WELCOME | image tagged in jimmy carter | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
We've been asleep at the wheel addressing our power issues.. Obama made lots of investments and unfortunately they were all failed ventures in Democratic donors renewable companies.. It actually set the industry back a few years. Again I'm all for renewables but you can't ignore obvious benefits of nuclear either. India china pakistan all have programs that are 40 years more recent than the US. We have one guy to thank for that.. a peanut farmer from Georgia !

that is a tad reductionist, and does not really express the finer minutiae.
there are very powerful and influential forces that put immense pressure on the political class.

big oil, which is probably the biggest recipient of corporate welfare(socialism),has dictated policy for multiple decades.

for years the global economy took their directions by following the USA.we used to LEAD the world in future technologies, but since the new software of capitalism in the form of neo-liberalism,that dynamic has changed.

so many western countries stopped following our lead and started forging their own paths, with their own goals and new partnerships.they are in the strictest sense..leaving the US in the dust.

so while the US continues it's goal of American hegemony and gobbling up all the resource (a.k.a OIL) countires into out trade groups.other countries are coming up with new and creative ways to address the inevitable energy collapse in regards to oil and natural gas.

to put it simply,we are getting dusted because our inability to adapt to the new paradigm.

It's a subsidized industry because it gives us the competitive advantages in so many other industries and also supplies heating to a large part of the country.

What's interesting to me is that you brushed over Carter's role in this. He was disastrous to America's nuclear power, because despite having a background in nuclear science was taught that it had to be buried and that it could potentially be used for weapons so he was more aligned with, "America should go without." Both of his assumptions were wrong, and we could be recycling nuclear fuel and have had a competitive advantage there that would be weaning us off fossil fuels not by regulation but instead by the production of a superior alternatives.

The best uses of resources is far from the governments forte, but he misdirected the country at such a crucial time we haven't been able to pull up from the nosedive.

I didn't gloss over carter,i simply made the argument that the real argument is not solely nuclear.

and I do not understand your defense of an industry that is one of the most profitable receiving subsidies to remain "competitive".
that is like ..anti-capitalism.

are you making the argument that when a company, which is profitable, should receive subsidies to remain competitive is capitalism?

because it is not.that is socialism.
when a company is allowed to reap the reward from their risk, but allowed to defer any of that detrimental risk (externalizing risk) onto the tax payer.that is almost the definition of socialism.

yet if I mention medicare4all,or free college..i am somehow a "dirty socialist?"

come on man...

Don't try to appeal to my love of free markets. LOL

I am not for subsidies of any kind.. but I get why it happens.. especially in the US. Gas is 1/4 the price it is in England. We also DRIVE in the US.. we drive our cars, we drive our motorcycles.. we drive our tractors.. and our culture wouldn't be the same.. electric cars may replace a lot of that in the future.. but that's going to be well into the future.. without upgrading the power grid.. and creating better supply methods we aren't plugging in 100 million electric cars into sockets..

Number of people working in renewables, 9.8 million. Number of people working in coal, 50,000.

and 1,400,000 people work in the petroleum industry.. the cleanest energy source we have is the atom, but for some reason Democrats don't like to talk about science when it comes to Nuclear energy because they are afraid of the atom. I have no problem with renewables.. we need to be focusing on upgrading the power grid as well but all of those electric cars aren't going to be able to run on solar and wind !

I have no problem with nuclear energy. I do have a problem with no permanent storage. Too much NIMBY. Until storage is finalized nuclear will not return. The power grid is getting upgraded and will continue to get upgraded as more and more renewables go online. There is no stopping it at this point. The change is coming no matter if we want it or not because it is now cheaper than coal.
