The money is there. $660 BILLION dollars per QUARTER goes to "defense" . The average American family shells out over $5,000 per year towards subsidies for Big Oil & a WHOPPING $36 dollars per year for SNAP programs. 60 cents of every tax dollar goes to defense. 10 cents of every tax dollar goes to ALL social programs-which means they all must share the BIG 10 cents-so maybe they get a third of a cent-wow,all the FREE stuff folks get in America !
A pitiable drop in the bucket next to big bank bailouts,subsidies, & tax breaks that rich folk enjoy. Politicians grab all our Social Security funds,vote themselves big salary increases,(salaries they enjoy for life !) Then they tell us ,as they enjoy their great healthcare(which we pay for,)that theres not enough money to help us fix our roads,shore up our levies, fund decent education for our kids,or give US even basic healthcare!
The money is there-but it won't be for long if Trump is allowed to bankrupt our nation like he repeatedly did his businesses. He's already bankrupted the Secret Service budget for his private team of babysitters. Seems he doesn't TRUST our secret service.
One can only wonder why he's so very paranoid that he even fears the men who have taken bullets for our presidents!

Yes, we do spend a lot on defense but that money cannot be diverted. A few billion, maybe. You can reduce a bit but most defense spending is necessary, even if you aren't warmonger.

As for those other sources you mention, if they weren't accessible before why would they be now? If Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Pelosi's gang couldn't make it happen before, why would AOC and her crew be able to?

If we paid off the national debt, we'd have all kinds of money for social programs. Unfortunately, the last two presidents have run up the debt to pay for their for their priorities.
