Okay, sure. The Republican controlled House & Senate were set to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government. Then Fox & Friends called Trump a F**king Pussy for not insisting on $5 billion for a wall. Trump said he wouldn't sign the bill.

Then the Republican controlled House & Senate couldn't get their shit together to be "fiscally responsible" and add $5 billion from out of their asses to partially fund Trump's BS Campaign Promise Wall. But then because the Republicans are a Party of Opposition and not a Governing Party, they couldn't pull their heads out of their asses and fund the government.

Then the Democrats took over the House. And said "no, the American people don't want the damn wall, so we're not funding it. You spent the whole run up to the election talking about the caravan and a wall but they still voted for us. So...no wall. Here's the exact same bill you were going to sign. Sign it."

Then Trump threw a temper tantrum and shut down the government.

Then he caved and accepted the same deal from December.

Then the House passed a resolution to pay the federal contractors the back-pay they missed due to Trump's Temper tantrum.

The Republicans blocked it in the Senate.

This might sound like a conspiracy theory, but here goes. You're right, they had plenty of opportunity to pass funding for the wall, so why didn't they? What if they did it on purpose?

If you know that you're going to lose the House, you focus on maintaining control of the Senate. Which means you're going to have a divided Congress, and a government shutdown is almost a guarantee. The only question is what issue will the shutdown be about? If you're the Republican leadership, what battleground would you choose? A Republican issue like the wall that you believe (rightly or wrongly) that you have support for, or a Democrat issue, say like healthcare, that you're almost sure to lose?

Again, this presupposes a lot of forethought, and might enter the realm of conspiracy theory. At the same time, isn't it just as foolish to assume that professional politicans on both sides do not engage in any forethought and contingency planning?
