SCTV was the best and I can relate to your sentiments about Andrea Martin. Early on I thought John Candy and Catherine O'Hara were the weak links, oh how wrong I was.
Me neither, but I remember how much I used to laugh. Some of their impressions were the best...Bob Hope, Woody Allen, Ricardo Montalban to name but a few. :-)
I think the first time I saw it, I saw the opening where they were throwing TV’s out the windows, including a grass hut, lol.
I knew it was for me! :-)
That opening came about because they turned a hot dog machine into a satellite and went international...thus people all over the world were tossing their TV's...haven't seen it in years, but still one of my all time favorite shows. :-)
