I think it a combo of things,I am in the Philly area and drug od's are the number 1 killer of ppl under 60 now(think the whole state too?) There is a ton of pressure for him to stop the drug "Crisis" . 90%+ of the illegal drugs come into the usa vs being manufactured here and almost all the fentenyel (spelling?) A wall will help with that, whether it helps 1% or 100% it will help.
The second part is the illegal immigrants themselves, there are a reported 20-40 million of them here and they cost the us taxpayer big time. I read upwards of 70k per yr per person.Many of them are unvaccinated and disease once thought beat are on the rise again. These are however ppl and I feel for them, both GOP and Dems have not done much to make them legit citz,etc.
The Gov spends 7 million $ per second, the cost of the wall is roughly 12.5 hrs of what we spend a day.
I personally feel it would work somewhat, if it doesnt, see the above meme
the dems would have a win/win situ if it does not.

Yes, why now? Because 2020 is fast approaching and this wall thing is purely political. If he could build it and put a 10 foot gold "Trump" sign on it he probably would. Also I have to question the legitimacy of stats from FAIR...less immigration of all types is kinda their thing. But ya a large part of that "cost" is keeping many other people employed.. ICE, border patrol, teachers, etc.. and I highly doubt those people would be interested in filling the jobs the handful of illegals who don't cross using legal entry points currently do. If you want to curb illegal immigration, crack down on companies who employ them.
