I find trolls funny more than anything else. They probably feel ten feet high posting abuse from the safety of their computer screens.

I hear ya, and have deduced they must get their positive feedback from the mirrors hanging in their parents' basements. https://i.imgflip.com/2r7xnv.jpg

Some maybe not. Other times people may know it's meant in jest but give a serious reply anyway.I think it depends on a person's mood as to which way they go. Now there are some clueless folks out there... but I think 98% of our community here don't need to be reminded of humorous intent.

Well, I often have to had "jk" or "(this was a joke, folks, a J-O-K-E)", on the forums where I am a lot, only to see my message getting reported as "abuse" or "harassment" anyway, not realizing that I am on that particular forum (gamejolt.com) the moderator who has to review them.... Figures :)

I can't really speak for many other forums, but I have seen what you mention in the course of my life. I think people develop animosity for some reason, or you get the mean spirited type who enjoy seeing people get their posts removed.

Yeah, in my own work I've seen many attempt to even get people banned without proper reason, just because they hate them. And if you really want to get posts removed without good reason, then reporting a moderator's post is often not the wisest way to go, as that will expose you as a troll-reporter. XD

Of course, some jokes are hard to detect. In my work as moderator I often remove "kill yourself" posts, although I know it's a meme, but people who are not familiar with that meme can feel pretty offended or even threatened, and I must take that in mind (although the "kill yourself" meme is often use to mock or ridicule people are at least to tell people they're really stupid), I've also seen posts getting reported when somebody on a computer forum asks "How much does an Apple cost?" replied with a picture of the fruit apple saying "Approx €2 per kilogram" as "spam", and then I think "can't you take a joke" (a bad joke, but still a joke).

You're right about that. I have seen some of that here. I have learned to look out for certain people and just avoid them. They always end up getting themselves deleted eventually. The truly hateful cannot hide their meanness for long.

Which stream do you moderate? Usually the Mods have an indicator on their screen name. I think I have noticed that maybe each stream has a separate moderator?

I'm not a moderator here on imgflip.com but on a different site which is gamejolt.com (Sorry if that was a bit unclear, as I hate it if people are confused about that point). A website for indie game developers to host their games. I develop games myself as well which you can find there.

Oh yeah, I've been in "discussion" with real hateful people, claiming I limit their freedom of speech, by saying stuff but I wonder what they think about my freedom of speech, and quite often they get easily outtrolled as they quite often to neglect to read what I write well (or are just making excuses to "bust" the facts I sometimes present. It's funny seeing them make a fool of themselves). I've got quite a reputation on YouTube for being an "asshole", where I nicknamed myself "the mirror" (not my username there, I just say that in posts).

I can't get my head around that whole idea that disagreeing with a person somehow limits their freedom of speech. Some people don't know how to handle when someone does not agree and they will grasp at any straws they can get ahold of to shut someone up. So yeah. That's backasswards to me.

And that was also the point I tried to make when I came up with this meme: imgflip.com/i/2qmxyy ;)

I explained that Grumpy Cat is supposed to be like that, for joking purposes.
I don’t know if they ever did figure it out, lol :-)

The concept of how we function here as well as the meaning behind the templates as well as how they are used for humor is lost on these new people. They up vote no one even though this courtesy has been explained, they do not get the humor therefore do not engage humorously, they insult the meme creator etc... After ALL THAT they ask that the community view, comment and upvote their memes which are largely gaming or high school related type of things. I have made an effort to help some of these new users out but I really didn't get anywhere with any of them. I am hoping they will either get bored and seek entertainment elsewhere, or get with it. LOL

Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of that. Some of the crap I’ve been posting is based on things from many years ago, they probably roll their eyes and move on, lol :-)
The dude that got mad was about 2 years ago. It was a meme about someone getting hit in the face with a soccer ball, lol. I didn’t post it, I just commented with Grumpy saying, “GOOD”.
I got the, “Someone could have been hurt.....” b.s.
I was like, it’s a joke, that’s what you would expect Grumpy to say.”
Groan, lol :-)
