I suppose it would be like cutting pictures/artwork out of magazines/websites, pasting them into a collage, and, calling the work all your own and expecting it to get the same level of credit as the photographers/artists... Oh, wait -- that's kind of what we are doing with memes, I guess.... COPYING recording samples and loops, and then pasting them into your own 'song' is NOT really musicianship, but more like being a collage artist -- this can be done well, thoughtful, and artistically, but it's NOT the same as doing it all from scratch.... A good collage is still not a Mona Lisa.
