They already utilize cameras and fencing in this way. That's where all the footage comes from that you see on the news. They do fly overs and use night vision, you can find these videos in numerous locations as well. Unfortunately the area is vast and pres trumps plan is to fortify the areas that are currently a problem- large sections of border which are difficult to cover. He has said it numerous times that they will not build the wall everywhere, just where the need is present. If you've been to these secluded areas you know that there isn't anyone near by to take on the job of monitoring the border. In Texas most of these areas are large private ranches. Ranch owners should not be expected to take on the responsibility of defending their home from cartel members, or caring for sick, injured or possibly dangerous illegal migrants who end up in their property. There are numerous (too numerous to provide a number) accounts of people dying in locations like these, some migrants with children, and they are only found later mummified/skeletonized by the elements or having been scavenged on by coyotes. It's a sad situation for everyone involved and i think a wall is a good way to discourage the illegal crossings. It is a clear physical symbol for for country's laws which should be upheld.
