Actually, that picture is from the San Diego zoo, they actually have physical barriers like trenches on some of the other exhibits.
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park actually has a trench type barrier for their lions as well as some other exhibits like the gorillas.
Disney World Animal Kingdom also utilizes trenches, but theirs are cleverly designed to blend in (good ol' Disney)
