It's right after the amendment that addresses AK-47s and AR-15s.

I'd love to see how the leftists would react if the restrictions (infringements) of the 2nd amendment were applied to the 1st amendment. Let's imagine a patchwork of laws that not only vary by state, but in some instances by localities within a state. And what you say in one place, might land you in jail in a different place. It's funny, but that's exactly what happens with gun rights. Let's see, perhaps before you can express yourself, you might need a permit. Sounds outrageous, but what part of "Shall not be infringed" do you not understand.

The point was that neither exist.

The larger implication that neither healthcare nor today's weapons were conceived of at the time. Not until most or even after all amendments were made. Room for improvement?

So very true!

I have absolutely no problem in amending the constitution as needed. That being said, I do have a very big problem with folks who simply do whatever they want to do while ignoring the limits of power that are granted in the constitution.

From usconstitution.net this appears to address what you are questioning, noting the part about 'general Welfare of the United States :

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

The problem is that the word “Welfare” is an overly broad word that can mean anything from housing to cell phones to health care to food and clothing. In short, it is a word without limits. When one reads the Federalist papers, it is very clear that the founding fathers wanted most of the power to reside in each state, and that the Federal government would have very limited powers.

That's disappointing. For a second there I thought you were going to mention what the federalist papers say about the word welfare in that particular power granted the federal government.

I believe when the country was founded, welfare meant necessities like national defense. But over the years, the meaning of that one word has been stretched to include whatever giveaways are necessary to buy votes. But that's just my recollection of the federalist papers that I read some number of years ago.
