Then senator Obama voted in favor of the Secure Fence Act of 2006 which resulted in 700 miles of fencing along the Mexico border. Obama also canceled the Wet Foot Dry Foot policy just before leaving office, which granted people from Cuba rights just for making it to the US.
"Effective immediately, Cuban nationals who attempt to enter the United States illegally and do not qualify for humanitarian relief will be subject to removal," Obama said. "By taking this step, we are treating Cuban migrants the same way we treat migrants from other countries."
