I think that would run out if the subduction zones stop.

Seriously, do you have any idea about what you babble, or do you just wing shit hoping it sticks sorta deal?

Without subduction zones, the ground water would be depleted by hydro-thermal vent, freeze on the surface and stay there. No more geothermal. Not winging it.

What does that have to do with the sun? Why would they stop, unless the moon disappeared?

And for clarification, geothermal is heat generated from below the earth's surface from its own radioctive decay, has nothing to do with the sun.
You're confusing that with hydrothermal.

Further, in places such as Yellowstone, Hawaii, and even Iceland (despite it's location on the Atlantic Ridge) the source of volcanic activity is not subduction, but mantle plumes,,,

Without sun energy, most of the molecules that would form gas and escape the heat would freeze on the surface. Subduction zones could take these gasses/water back into the mantle where they could be gassified and produce mechanical motion that we could harness for energy. I guess this makes a context argument rather than a source argument.
Sterling engines 'could' harness geothermal energy. Assuming there is a supply of elements, escaping gasses could be used as well.

So gas would freeze but be turn gaseous underground causing motion that can be harnassed? That's a mighty big drill bit you're gonna need, and for a lifeless planet, no less.

btw, the point thing on this site is silly, but at least have the courtesy to upvote LastResort and who gave you a respectful comment and upvoted you thinking that was your upvote and not mine.

Sheesh.

I'm done.

I think you're right. I like/agree with a comment I should probably up-vote it. I did get into the weeds a bit.

As for geothermal, I have read since yesterday that probably most of the heat at the core of Earth is likely left over from the construction of the planet, with nuclear being a much smaller factor and friction being another smaller factor.

I don't just sit here and argue, I go and study and look to see if I am incorrect. I can accept being wrong.

In general, the polite thing would be to upvote regardless if they're stroking your ego and wearing the correct team tee shirt. If they're getting ugly about it, then it's understanadable to not do so.
That upvote you had with my first reply that later disappeared? That was mine.

That's the core - and the have no way of verufying that. Most of the heat from the Earth (occuring in at least the mantle and crust if not the core) is fission.

Friction comes from the tidal pull of the moon. No moon? You end up with Mercury or Venus or Mars, etc, in terms of geologic activity.

^^ verifying* I can't spell for shit.

Enemy? I take it you haven't been here long. Place is overrun with trolls.
