Yeah, it's called Single Payer, this is where you get the money from that, and you'll pay less in taxes for a full service, than what you pay now in private expenses for a skimped ass service susceptible of even additional charges.
It's basic economics dude, it's called Monopsony, the Spanish government bargains with the hypothetical, American hip replacements manufacturer, they analyze the production costs, assuming the hip manufacturer isn't lying with their numbers, which will be shooting themselves in the foot because another company, more honest with their profit margins with the same product quality, would get the advantage in the deal, and believe me, selling in bulk to an entire country is one helluva deal, better than having to deal with so many different insurance companies, keeping track/paying so many different commercial agents, marketing execs, and various other hustlers...
.
How can be paying a shit-tonn to an insurance company so they re-sell you a mediocre service, be better than paying half a shit-tonn to your very own government so it can guarantee you a human right? you're being socially progressive and fiscally conservative at the same time, this is as closest as you could ever get to keeping the cake and eating it.
"Know why Ford is moving more and more production to Canada? Healthcare costs"
Why do you ignore this bit from Boma's post? if you're a company you'll be paying less for your worker's healthcare in taxes, than you do now, with your employer's health insurance, which in most cases is mandatory anyway, and this is one of those few, rare thing that helps small and large business alike (again, you're eating the cake and keeping it, I know, that as an average American, you're accustomed to be held hostage by private interests in almost every single facet of your live, and that it's hard to believe that there can be something better, but see? that's exactly how Stockholm [pun totally intented] Syndrome works).
This is a nation's health we're talking about dude, not the latest Iphone!, besides, you'd be able to buy dozens of Iphones with what you'd be saving with Single Payer (and maybe even a trip to Spain).
