If you retain a lawyer to work on your legal defense, what you say is covered under attorney client privilege. If you conspire with a lawyer to commit a crime, that is not covered under attorney client priveledge.

If she acted alone and then sought out legal council for her defense, communications with that council would be covered under attorney client privilege. If she hired a lawyer to help her find ways to subvert security laws, communications with that lawyer would not be covered under attorney client privilege. I’m not aware that the latter allegation has been made.
