What was the comment I responded to?

I have no idea - the page were it belongs to is not shown. If you didn't comment one of my comments very recently, it's probably false alarm and they are trolling me.

404 means the meme itself was deleted.

Thanks. Why then do I get a notification about a comment when I cannot find it? And is it correct that only the author him/herself can delete a meme? And are the comments conserved?

when you get a notification, and there's no comment to be found, it just means the user deleted the comment

The way I see it, when someone comments, the notification is generated immediately, but never updated. Only the author or imgflip mods can delete a meme. But reporting a link to imgflip could potentially get something deleted. I don’t think text comments can be accessed on a deleted meme, but meme comments have a life of their own - they are stored in the users images and they are public, but you would need to know the direct URL to see them.
