In 1888 A.T.Schofield wrote Another World where he suggested God and spirits live in 4th dimensional space. In 1893 Arthur Willink wrote The World of the Unseen where he said that 4th dimensional space wasn't good enough and the only place grand enough for God was infinite dimensional space. So even in the late 1800s religious scholars were discussing multidimensional space in theoretical physics and God being an extra-dimensional entity. Extra-dimensional entities are assumed to operate outside of our laws of physics and be able to do things that would be considered supernatural.

This particular extra-dimensional entity is performing a psychological test on its subjects where they are expected to operate within certain moral parameters and does not want its existence proven any more than a scientist observing human or animal behavior due to it skewing the results.
