Actually guns weren't allowed because the VP was attending and the secret service likes to be the only ones with guns in that situation. Not exactly a gun free zone but nice try twisting the facts on that one :P

Your inverted commas instead of quotation marks tells me you are from England. You think it's a safer place because your government keeps you all under their thumb? So I guess the 37,443 knife attacks that happened in 2017 are better? And you still had 6,694 gun offenses even with all the laws! London has had more murders than New York!

SO now what? Should we have tougher knife laws? Ok no more knives then what? Should they make tougher laws against blunt instruments? Maybe cut off everybodies hands so they have to headbut each other?

Violent people are the problem, not the weapon they choose. You don't need a gun to drive a car through a crowd of people. So should we all go back to riding horses?

Laws do not keep people safe. They only provide an illusion of safety to the sheep who need somebody else to protect them.

When some drunken idiot tried to break in to my neighbors work shop he called his neighbors after he called the police. In 5 minutes the idiot found himself surrounded by 6 armed farmers, the police showed up 20 minutes later. The idiot had a crowbar which he dropped instantly when he saw we were better armed than him. If we had walked up on him unarmed he could have done some serious damage before we overwhelmed him. Which would have resulted in many injuries possibly even death.

We protect our own around here. When you live out in the sticks and houses are spread far apart. The only thing that stops people from thinking you are an easy target is the knowledge that everybody out here is armed. Even the people without guns are safer since it's assumed we all have them. You don't have to like guns I don't care. The only way anybody is taking mine is out of my dead hands...

Not to stick my nose in this one, but those are semi quotes, and I use them all the time, and I'm Bx, NY, NY born n raised.

Which brings me to my main point, you did cite NYC - once synonymous with violence - being safer than London. It's also safer than any big city in America, and if you toss in per capita, than the interior West and whatever else...

Gun control (restrictions, pro active policing, gun buy back programs, social intervention, etc) has worked here. Yeah, yeah, Chiiiiiicago go! - apparantly the ONLY locale in the US mentioned in the 'opposing factions' fave stale argument, begs to differ...
And that's because it ain't NYC. Team NRA won't bring it up for obvious reasons, and Team NoGunFun curiously tends to not mention it as well (a sure bot giveaway)

The inverse of your point is true. New York IS safer than London because violent crime continues to dip at a rate surpassing and surprising expectations.

The main point I was trying to make was that no guns does not equal no violence. The media loves to say how countries with no guns have hardly and "gun" violence. They neglect to mention that people have just changed to stabbing and beating each other to death.

We don't need more laws we need more tolerance for each other. Only that will never happen while our politicians play people against each other to keep them distracted.

Why should we let the violent actions of a few be a reason to make more laws that will affect an entire country forever? That gives them power, the people who did mass shootings in the countries that banned guns forever will now be in the history books forever. Our media is just as bad, they make these people famous.

Google the story about the woman who looked up how the Boston bombers made a bomb from a pressure cooker at work. She had 6 terrorist task force members with assault rifles and full tactical gear show up at her house. Is that what we want in our country. To have soldiers knocking on doors interrogating people like the SS did oh so well?

The NRA used to be the chief lobbyist for gun control - which does NOT mean taking every single precious gun out of people's hands. But then they got bought up by the gun companies facing decling sales and have fostered the notion that guns rights supersede the right to life.

Laws are needed for such because humans cannot control themselves.
270 murders out of 8.6 MILLION people in NYC in 2017 INCLUDES guns, bombs, arson, knives, bats, fists, and yes, pots & pans.
If these other countries truly saw a significant uptick in other forms of violence (check out my comments to a French dude yesterday about the recent stab-a-teacher-in-school fad there, so yeah, I've heard a story or three), then maybe the savages too should sit down learn from us (altho subtract a European Moslem terrorist truck massacre or two and their acid attacks, and those stats become what?).
I lived in the Bronx since back when it was THE most dangerous place in the civilized world (till Beirut took the crown in the 80s) - have taken the D train from Downtown to 187th & the Concourse at 3 - 5 am and walked the rest to Lorillard Pl with no weapons (Google Fordham Road area, 'tis a Rican slum), and strangely, I ain't dead yet.

The NRA also used to teach kids gun safety, respecting a weapon and what it can do is very important as well.

There are a lot of problems with a lot of people having guns that shouldn't. I just don't believe that making law abiding citizens suffer for it is the right answer. I can go buy an Ak-47 right now for $100 without having to go through any of the things the law says I should have to. The thing is so can anybody else that has $100 and happens to bump into the guy selling it. No law will ever be able to stop person to person sales. They might throw more people in jail like that's what our country needs. They won't stop people who really want a gun from getting it.

What we should be worried about is how much money our government spends on guns that are so mass produced right now, it's cheaper to leave containers of them in countries like Iraq than to ship them home. The war machine keeps grinding and rich evil bastards keep getting richer off the deaths of our soldiers. You won't hear about that on the news, they own the media, it's all a spin to distract us from the real atrocities going on every day around the world.
Not that school shootings aren't horrible, but the schools themselves are horrible, the parents that don't pay any attention to their kids are horrible as well. Honestly the way kids are raised now, I'm surprised there isn't a shooting a lot more often. I guess it's a lot easier to blame the guns than try to examine how this consumer culture they've created that has people detached from everything that isn't on their phone. People that are trying to place blame are usually trying to hide their own. It's the guns fault, we need more gun laws, just don't make me have to spend time with my family and provide support for my kids.

tells me you are from England."" -- Your statements tell me your mind is a little fragmented. If by England you mean NYC, then yes.

what ? vp cant be around guns? really? guess its cause its not safe.

Knives???? enough with you gun idiots comparing tools and transportation designed to do other things, with a gun which is designed ONLY to KILL.... done with you, same NRA nonsense everyday.

And I dont care how far how in the woods or out in the boonies you live, you dont need 30 rounds rapid fire ... there are no freaking zombies coming for you.

So you live in America and choose to punctuate like a Britt? You should move there you'd be much safer in your little mind.

Guns aren't made just to kill you idiot, they are part of Olympic sports geesh. Not to mention all the people around the world who fill their freezers with meat so their families can eat all year.

You think knives weren't invented for killing? I guess when the first man tied a sharpened rock to a stick it was for decoration right? More people are killed by knives than anything else, every year, all over the world.

So I'm a gun idiot because I don't want to be like you and depend on other people to protect my family? I don't need 30 rounds rapid fire right now no. My twin 45's hold 8 rounds each and I can empty and reload them fast enough to compete with any assault rifle.

You are aware that we are at war with people that are constantly trying to sneak into our country and kill us right? It would be a lot easier to kill a zombie than a terrorist with an AK-47 and a suicide vest who doesn't care if he dies trying to kill you.

It's cool though, you can stay in your little fantasy world where the government is going to keep you safe from all the bad guys. All it takes is a situation where people can't get food for three days for them to start turning on each other. Did you not see what happened in New Orleans after Katrina? Ignorance is bliss so you must be one blissful individual...

I have homes in the US and Europe, and yes I am safer in Europe. By far.

You want a 6 shot gun? Fine. You over 21? fine. You have a clean criminal record? fine. You willing to register and insure against it killing someone? fine. You want rapid fire semi auto weapon designed for armies and killing? too bad. this is coming back - count on it.

Fewer gun deaths, still as many deaths though. Is the point to make it more of a challenge, if that's the case you win!

Luckily for me I live somewhere that your opinion on what I can and can't own doesn't mean squat. I personally don't care for automatic weapons they aren't generally very accurate and I am a good shot. I don't need to spray lead everywhere to hit my target. Out of the 14 guns I own only one of them is an assault rifle and it stays locked in the gun safe where it belongs in case it is needed. Most of the rest have been in my family for generations and all of them have a practical use.

You've already proven with your statement that getting rid of 30 round clips isn't good enough for you. You want nobody to have more than six shots and a lot of guns do. So what? You get one thing banned and start on the next? That's exactly why your agenda won't succeed. People here are smart enough to know that once you start giving up freedoms people just want to take more of them away from you the next time...

He's made millions playing a boxer, a one man army, and a judge in some futuristic dystopia/utopia in the future - psst, it's not real, it's a movie.

And no, he doesn't want to take guns out of your sad little hands, he's stating the obvious about assault weapons for those too obtuse to understand that assault weapons are weapons for assault, hence the name....

yes, this is excatly how I feel. I am the one who all the guns are pointing @.
