Saying "period" at the end of the sentence makes it seem like there should be an explanation mark rather than an actual period. Does anyone else see this issue?

Good point. There are actually 2 exclamation points ( not explanation mark ) after the word period. In this content the word period implys “nothing more needs to be said.”
