Must have been an Archer Fish - they shoot water into nearby foliage and rocks to knock insects into the water. Then they eat the insects (or people with Bad Luck).

There are seven species and they can be kept in an aquarium, although they require live food.

You can find great videos of Archer Fish on YouTube if you're interested. Especially the slow-motion footage. :-)
