So you are a HOME teacher?

I'd been meaning to ask since you mentioned Fun Fridays recently.

At least you know they're being taught the right stuff. Good for them! :-)

Indeed I am! I learn a lot right along side them.

I decided to implement Fun Friday to give them a chance to stretch their brains in more interactive ways. I have a ton of games which require a bit of critical thinking but also take the "blah" out of the week.
I love that I can emphasize parts where they need it, and spend less time where they do not. The one-on-one lessons are not really possible in a classroom with 20 other kids.

I just left Arizona about a year ago. The teachers took a voluntary pay cut back when the housing bubble burst with the promise that they would get their regular wages again when the economy picked up. The state is a couple of years behind. I don't usually run to the aid of striking teachers, but they deserve to get their regular pay back. Especially with the shit teachers have to go through now. The kids run the schools because administrators are so scared of getting sued. My sister teaches in Virginia, if a kid starts acting out in the classroom and tearing things up, she has to get the other kids out, leave the room and let that kid go off until they are tired. The public schools are a zoo, which is why I busted my ass ot keep my daughter in a high rated charter school.

How sad. But kudos to the good charter schools!

And THAT is one reason I home school my kids. WE have a terrible, "My baby didn't do that!" mentality with parents these days. The teachers are forced to put up so much, and if they dare enforce rules in the class room they are villianized and their jobs put in danger. But we also have the opposite problem at the same time. Kids being punished for things that shouldn't even be an issue. For example, a kid wore a Donald Trump t-shirt and was suspended for "hate speech". I mean it has gotten way out of hand. I hope this is just a passing phase because we're in serious trouble if isn't.

I absolutely agree. For teachers its not even about enforcing the rules anymore. The policies are all written to avoid ANY potential litigation. If you want to blame someone for the decline in school based education, blame the lawyers who bring these frivolous law suits to court.
