Anything that makes customers feel good about their experience is not window dressing. Anyone can sell coffee. People who sell a pleasant experience will still be in business when coffee peddlers are hawking organic solar panels, or the latest fad.

Stop over roasting the beans and we'll talk. If I want to be patronized by a pimply kid, I'll go to a Seattle city council meeting.

I am a 70-year old, retired heath care and public affairs manager. I don't work for Starbucks, own their stock or even go to their stores, except on rare ocdcasion. If you cannot understand that some people see the occasional problem that pops up as an opportunity to improve, I am sorry for you. You will never grow. I am of mixed race (native and Scot) which had my older brother beaten by Whiite bullies in the San Fernando Valley in the 1950s, because he was a "Beaner." I have mixed, African American and White, Grandchildren,. I have seen many improvements in the world in my lifetime, in the Army and working in the real world, in community involvement, etc. But, we can take things up a notch in the times we find ourselves. If you don't care or assume anyone who doesn't practice flamethrower diplomacy has an angle, that is your problem, not mine.
