"Vigilantism", as they are pleased to call it, is the only crime courts can not find an excuse for. Anything else is because reasons like, "The perpetrator is the real victim, it's society's fault!.

But would you say that a burglar that escapes deserves the death penalty if tried for his crime? *thinking emoji*

Of course not, unless they actually murdered someone during the burglary.

Then why do they deserve to die while committing the burglary? *thinking emoji but the hand is stroking the chin of another hand with the thinking face on it, which in turn strokes the chin of the normal head with a thinking face*

If someone shoots a burglar during the burglary, that (in my opinion) is justified, because the homeowner is protecting themself from someone who does not have the right to be there, who may very well pose a threat to their life.

During the actual commission of the crime, the homeowner is justified in perceiving the burglar as a deadly threat, and treating them accordingly. After the crime is over and the burglar has fled, they no longer pose the same imminent threat to safety. Also, theft by itself is not a crime worthy of death. If the burglar shoots the homeowner who then dies, that's clearly a different story.

Yeah, I agree overall, I just don't consider an action being justified to mean that action was deserved. I consider it justifiable to use lethal force to defend yourself from what may well be a deadly threat, but I don't take that to mean they deserved to die for being a burglar. In short, I'd say their death was perhaps justifiable, but not necessarily deserved, if that makes sense.

That does make sense, and I do see your point.

Depends on if they get shot in the front or the back imo!
