Was the biggest lead and zinc mines in the states! Were veins that from Joplin Mo. to Miami Ok.! When they finally closed the mines in Galena in the late 60's they had over 13,000 pumps running keeping the water pumped out! If they ever have an earthquake there will be one big ass lake Lol! Guess that's why I wound up crazy rode to many cars hoods down the chat piles when I was kid lol :)

Ok, I wasn't aware that zinc and lead were found that Far East, for whatever reason I thought that was more in the Rocky Mountains. You usually find heavy metals together in any number of combinations......I wonder how many got a little too much lead in their system.....probably a lot more than anyone want to admit..

Yea, lead is a neurotoxin, it will make you lose your mind. Now any worker that works with lead of any significance greater than a plumber soldiering pipe has to have all kinds of personal protection equipment and they get blood tests every few months for a lead count. My grandpa was a coal miner for 53 years, and I'm willing to bet that they both had similar protection equipment, which was basically one of those MSA 1 hour rescue respirators...and that's about it! Wow, Rte. 66 ran right the f**k through that town! Lol
