Laws are not designed to prevent crimes, they never have been. They are designed as a way to define and impose penalties for violating the community standard. That is their only function.
No, that's why people get killed with knives, and beaten to death, and ran over by cars, and choked to death, and crushed and pushed of buildings and burned, etc.
