A human fetus. I'll come out and say that on the topic of abortion, though there are grey areas, I come out on the side of pro choice. The line that divides a single cell and a human is ambiguous and there is also the rights that the mother has over her own body. Morality isn't always black and white. My opinion can be swayed one way or another on a case by case basis but ultimately it comes down to this: What will minimize suffering and maximize well being for everyone? I tend to use that as a guide for these complicated and emotionally charged subjects.

Not too many grey areas, really. The only real one I see is if the mother’s life is in danger. Which it rarely is..

I didn't say a cell in the womb isn't alive. There are about 70 trillion living cells in your body right now. About 5 million cells die per second. I'm sure you realize that a woman ovulates once a month and if her egg cell isn't fertilized then it dies.
If I understand you; you're saying that once an egg cell is fertilized then it is immoral to kill the cell. Even if the mother is not ready or baby is unwanted, the baby would be born into bad conditions and suffer, or have birth defects, or the mother was r@ped. Is that right?

Adoption is always an option. Maybe the child would be better off in different hands. At least he/she would be given a chance. As for rape, is it right to punish the innocent child for the sins of his father? If the woman doesn’t want it, fine. There are plenty of families out there that would love the child. Every life should have a chance.

If you would force a woman who was raped to carry a future orphan for 9 months and have her live with that because she has microscopic cell inside her then I don't think we have much else to talk about.

I wouldn’t force a woman to do anything. It’s her choice whether she wants to kill the life inside of her. But I don’t think it should be legal. Why can a man who punches a pregnant woman in the womb, and kills her “microscopic cell”, be charged with manslaughter, yet a woman can go pay a man in a clinic to do the same thing, perfectly legally, and not only be charged, but encouraged to do so? Why is the child’s life valued in one way and not the other? And it’s only a microscopic cell for not even a day. After 21 days the baby has a heartbeat.

I can respect that. But then you say:

Which is forcing her. So which is it?

Why should it be illegal to punch a woman in the stomach? (baby or no)
Because it's her body.
Why should it be legal for that same woman to have an abortion?
Because it's her body and she gave consent.

Okay, nobody is going around encouraging abortions.
It's a hard choice for a woman make.

I understand why you might ask this and please understand.
A child that is born and going to school is a conscious human being with friends and family that love them, living in a society that has good reasons to not allow children to be murdered: Everyone has the right to feel safe. I don't need to go on here I think you would agree we shouldn't simply allow kids in school to be shot.
A cell or fetus is different. For one it is occupying another person's body. Allowing abortions doesn't put everyone in a state of anxiety because we're not going around killing active members of society. That would be bad for everyone.. This is a decision that in my opinion is the mother's alone and she can include the father if she wants to. The fetus is not aware of anything. And in fact in some cases, which would be almost all cases where an abortion does happen, the mother has decided that it would ultimately be a bad thing to bring a child into the world. I don't know why a heartbeat should have any bearing and it doesn't dismiss all the other factors.

Now I can understand the emotional response to the idea of an abortion. You're human.

I think one slightly compelling anti-abortion argument is the fact that a man does not share in the final word one way or another. A man has to pay child support based on the decision of the mother. And does not have a say if he wants the child.

Do what you think is right for yourself but please don't push your ideals onto others and let them make their own choice for their lives and the lives of their families.
