The military isn't made up of anti gun liberal snowflakes. If the government tried to disarm the population then the military along with the population would waste the government along with anyone that got in their way.

Assault rifles are the bread and butter of guerilla warfare. All the tanks and napalm in the US arsenal couldn't win Vietnam. All the latest war technology hasn't been able to subdue the Middle East. I'm only one person but there are many other like minded people that will resist if our government becomes an enemy to its own people.
One assault rifle means nothing, but a population armed with them means our government can't screw us without consequences. Our armed population is the real strength of the American people.

You're damn right I need a gun to feel safe. Just because you live in ignorance doesn't mean all of us do. I've had my house broken into twice. I've had a knife pulled on me.
Handguns keep me safe from individuals, assault rifles keep Americans safe from their own government.
