A child yelling "I LOVE THE CANDY MAN" sounds a lot different from a dude-bro saying "I love the candy, man." There's a slight pause between "candy" and "man" in the second phrasing that distinguishes between a "candy man" and a man you're talking to about candy. Punctuation matters, always.
