Don't get me wrong, not trying to justify what that shithole of an imbecile Trump said, but you do little to counterpoint it by bringing up JUSTIFICATION for what he said, and erroneusly so, I might add.
1. Bauxite > Alumina > Aluminum ; Iron Ore > Iron > Steel
If you have to give names of the same product at diff levels of production, your redundancy is only limiting the list of what they supposedly have to offer.
2. Those aren't all that rare, nor are there not other sources, including on US soil. We get most of our aluminum from Jamaica, and Canda is the world's largest producer of nickel. Silver & gold we still have mines off, and so does Mexico, etc.
3. Highlighting the mining of these merely nudges the question of why are they so poor still? Corruption, mismanagement, exploitation, etc, have served to deepen poverty in these areas, and thus in effect backs what Trump said.
There are plenty of more raw resources Africa has, including its people. It has the fastest growing middle class in the world.
China is already going the way of Japan, we're just to busy pretending otherwise. Japan was suppossed to dominate the world economy, now it's been stagnating for a decade and a half.
As wages and cost of living in China increases as well as throughout Asia in coming decades, it will be African countries that eventually take their place as the next area to almost take the lead away from the USA but not quite, much as the rest of the world has already learned as they too climb but not quite high enough.
