I am really, really glad that you understand my point What you tell about your father, was common practice until not so long ago (in this context, read about Josef Stalin's youth in Wikpedia - one is not so surprised that he became a brutal dictator after knowing that). I myself was physically beaten as well, but what was even worse, i was sexually abused as a very small child (not by family members, though) and grew up in an environment where I was convinced as a child that girls and women are second class humans without many rights. I had the problem to be intelligent enough to see this clearly but also understand that wiht respect to intelligence I was not at all inferior to boys (I am a scientist now). Later I had a severe mental disease that forced me for many, many years to take heavy psychopharmaceuticals. When it finally got healed (thank goodness I was lucky enough to really get healed) and didn't any longer take sedative drugs, I realized that I was heavily traumatized with very bad episodes of PTSD when the traumas were triggered. I am now in a very good special trauma pschotherapy (not many psychotherapists are able to deal with heavy traumatization) and it got already much better. Since I started to speak abot these problems with other peole, I heard from so many women that they were abused as children and still have heavy anxietey because of this (and, as I said, many women just don't remember and have to be hypnotized in order to find out). I can make jokes about havong been beaten, but I cannot make jokes about having been sexually abused (I went through the whole thing again in a spontanoeus flashback). Humanity has to get much more aware about what such traumatization (including hard beating) does to people. I believe that possbily it is t h e biggest problem of humanity and we definitely have to find a way out of this, if we want to improve the conditions for living on our planet.
