I don't think they lack ambition. They are ambitious for all the wrong reasons.
I think that your beef is with amoral political tribalism, which is present on the Left and Right. You point out the "white evangelicals" and Christians, but what about the tribalism on the Left from secularists or "liberal" Christians?
The people on the Left "rationalize" hoards of antifa jack-boot thugs doing violence in the streets as "peaceful counter protests" or "antifascism" and "free speech." Many of them have said they don't think Al Frankin or John Connors should have resigned because they wanted their votes to remain in Congress. I personally don't think the political Left really even cared about the accusations against Frankin or Connors, they just wanted to "have the moral high ground" in their attacks against Trump and Moore in case he had won. So Frankin and Connors "took one for the team." Talking about "rationalizing anything," were you around in the Clinton years?
The Christians who voted for Trump had to choose between a douche nozzle and a turd sandwich or not vote at all. From what I understand from most of the Christians I know, they voted against one and not "for" the other.
Unfortunately, the mentality of tribalism has caused many of these people to actually believe that Trump can do no wrong. Not because they think he is impeccable, but because the "other side" is against him so he must be right.
The Christians who supported Moore until the end were acting out of tribalism and not according to the ethics taught by Christ. For Christians like myself who see through the tribalism and the unchristian behavior it can influence, we long for the day when Christ will return to reign and bring an end to all this nonsense. He won't be distancing himself, he will be ruling us all and put an end to all our foolishness.
I'm all for calling out people when they do stupid stuff, but you lose credibility when you don't call out both sides. That in itself looks like tribalism.
